Golf in Wales

For a country that’s even smaller than Belgium, Wales certainly punches well above its weight when it comes to all matters golfing.  That’s because golf in Wales is ‘golf as it should be’ - unhurried, unhindered, and excellent value for money. 

There’s no question that golf in Wales and South Wales in particular has experienced a massive boost over the last five years.  The most recent Welsh golfing success story came in 2006, when Welshman Ian Woosenam captained the Ryder Cup team to a memorable victory over the USA at the K Club in Ireland. 

Furthermore, the decision to host the 2010 Ryder Cup at the Celtic Manor in Newport has sharply focused the eyes of the golf world onto Wales as more and more people discover the Principality’s vast array of golf courses, which compare extremely favourably to our Celtic cousins, Scotland and Ireland, in terms of both price and quality.  The efforts of Celtic Manor owner, Sir Terry Matthews, mean that Wales has now secured global television’s third largest sporting event allowing us to showcase ourselves in a truly unique way.
